The Indian version of who wants to be a millionaire, which is hosted by the veteran actor Amitabh Bachhan yesterday exposed its millions of viewers to the concept of cryptocurrencies. In Monday’s episode of the popular game show, the host asked the contestant a question about Facebook’s Libra and then went on to explain the basic concept of digital currencies.
This happened when the 19-year-old contestant Himanshu Dhuria, from Uttar Pradesh, was on the hot seat. One of the questions asked to him was,
“What is Libra, proposed by Facebook?”
Himanshu had four options: artificial intelligence camera, instant messenger app, short video platform, and cryptocurrency.
After the contestant opted the right option, host Amitabh Bachchan went on to explain millions of viewers that a cryptocurrency is a form of a digital and global money system. He further mentioned the names of bitcoin, litecoin, and ripple as examples.
Nischal Shetty, CEO of crypto exchange Warzix tweeted the clip of the game show and wrote crypto is the future of finance and innovation. Currently, there is a blanket ban on cryptocurrencies in India. And a regulatory committee is planning to propose a law that would make dealing in any cryptocurrency illegal.
CRYPTO had its first TELEVISION MOMENT in India. Best thing, the young KBC participant knew the answer!
Every youth of India is getting involved in Crypto because it’s the future of finance & innovation.
Thank you @SrBachchan
